First for New Zealand - 820 tonne marinetravel lift completes first haul out

Orams Marine has hauled out the first vessel using its 820 tonne travel lift, marking the start of a new era in superyacht refit within the Pacific.

Auckland’s Orams Marine has hauled out the first vessel with its 820 tonne travel lift, adding to the already extensive capabilities of this leading superyacht yard, in the South Pacific.

The lift, of a 34.8 metre vessel, highlighted the capabilities of the yard which is now able to accommodate the largest vessels cruising the Pacific. The yacht was lifted on the morning of 13 January, in the yard’s central Auckland precinct, and the operation went smoothly; the vessel is now on the hard within Orams’ new hardstand area.

The addition of the 820 tonne marine travel lift is part of a wide-ranging expansion which included creating the extra hardstand, doubled capacity for marine service companies, and an 85 tonne travel lift, in addition to the existing 600 tonne slipway already on site.

Inbuilt to the project is a water treatment plant which ensures the facility is a world-leader in the refit market in protecting the environment, as well as three 90 metre marina fingers, the installation of which will begin in March. The result is a full-service refit destination able to cater to a broad range of vessels.

Orams Marine has served the marine industry from its Auckland location for 35 years and CEO, Neven Barbour says the new additions create a world-class facility in a world-class location.

Many of the on-site marine trades and services will expand their capacity and capabilities as new premises are built to accommodate their growth.

The 32,000 square metre site is set in the heart of Auckland’s marine precinct in a prime waterfront location, and is a short walk from the 36th America’s Cup village as well as Auckland’s CBD. This world-class yard has become a favourite with refitting crew due to its high-quality work, excellent amenities nearby, attractive and secure crew housing, and easy access to Auckland’s Harbour and Hauraki Gulf islands.

As a gateway to some of the most-adventurous cruising grounds in the world, the Orams Marine team is adept at refitting yachts which need to be prepared for any cruising conditions.
