The United States is New Zealand’s third-largest international visitor market. The South Pacific country is on the bucket list for many more Americans, too, including our editor. So when the news came that the country is re-opening its border to superyacht visitors this August, we knew many of you would be ready to cross it off your bucket lists. To shed light on how New Zealand is welcoming back yachting visitors, we speak with Peter Busfield, the executive director of the New Zealand Marine Industry Association.

For several decades now, the organization has been promoting New Zealand’s yachting and superyachting businesses. These businesses address not just cruising needs, but also service and refit. During the pandemic, of course, that became tremendously difficult, since the country kept its international borders shut for the past two years. Rather than shrug their shoulders and give up, though, the New Zealand Marine Industry Association members got creative.
